CECILY TYNAN’S CAREER INSPIRATION IN THE EARLY YEARS

Cecily tells RealWoman online about the day she realized she wanted to work in broadcasting. The NASA shuttle orbiter mission STS-51-L exploded during its flight on January 28, 1986, killing all five NASA astronauts on board. Cecily recalls watching CBS news anchor Dan Rather convey and offer information to millions of viewers nationally when she was 17 years old. Cecily says, “I remember thinking, ‘Man, what an important service he’s doing right now, letting the people know what’s going on’ that’s when I decided I wanted to be on TV.”

She recalls her father discouraging her saying, “You don’t want to do that. Very few people can make it.” And to that she said, “Well, I’m just gonna be one of those people”.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATION OF CECILY TYNAN

Cecily attended Lexington, Virginia’s Washington & Lee University. It is a private liberal arts university that was founded in 1749 and is the country’s ninth-oldest institution of higher learning. She earned a magna cum laude for her double degree in journalism and politics.

She spent eight years studying for a stamp of approval from the American Meteorological Society while working in the media. Her television seal number is 1099, according to the American Meteorological Society.

METEOROLOGY AND CECILY TYNAN’S CAREER BEGINNINGS

Cecily’s first position in the industry was as an intern at WDBJ, a local news, weather, and sports station in Roanoke, Virginia, where she also worked as a weekend reporter. Cecily admits that during her internship, she “got a little lazy and I started covering festivals and things instead of taking more important stories.”

When a post for a Business Reporter became available, she expressed her interest, but her news director told her flatly that she would not be considered for the position because she had lost the’spark’ that they had seen in her at the start.

While this hearing this was devastating, Cecily considers this wake-up call to be “the best thing ever that happened to my career.”

When a position for a weekend weathercaster became available, she took it. It gave her a new lease on life and lead her to find her passion for meteorology.

Of meteorology, Cecily Tynan says, “I loved the fact that the weather was one part of the newscast that was going to affect everybody’s life. I like the challenge of meteorology. I love storms and trying to figure out what’s going to happen.”

PARENTS OF CECILY TYNAN

Cecily notes that her father was initially skeptical of her desire to pursue a career in television, claiming that only a few people made it. Cecily, who has worked in television for almost 20 years, clearly found this to be a struggle.

She shared this snapshot of herself and her mother while reminiscing about their shared birthday celebration. Their birthdays are separated by a day. She also shares images of her mum on her social media platforms on a daily basis.

BIRTH DEFECT OF CECILY TYNAN

Cecily was born with a congenital hip deformity that was identified just a few months after she began walking. Doctors recommended that she take ballet courses to help her restore her form. This inspired her to pursue a career as a ballerina at one time in her life. Her parents, however, refused to let her go on a trip to Russia with her dancing group because they didn’t want her to skip school.

While her dancing group was in Russia, she tried out for the track squad to pass the time and keep herself engaged. She bid farewell to ballet and welcome to a new sporting love at this point.

CECILY TYNAN IS AN EXPERIENCED ATHLETE.

Cecily Tynan’s life has revolved on sports. She is a triathlete who competes in marathons on a regular basis. She is a four-time sub-3-hour marathoner, a former world-class professional duathlete, and a top ten age group finisher at the 2003 Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, according to her 6ABC profile bio.

Cecily revealed in 2017 that she would be taking a hiatus from racing for the time being in order to focus on her two growing children. She is not, however, finished jogging. She still runs 5 to 6 times a week and posts about her runs and exercises on social media.

BODY SHAME FOR CECIL TYNAN

As a message for Women’s Month in March of 2020, Cecily says, “Why don’t we use social media, and life in general, to try to lift other women up instead of tearing them down? There’s so many things happening that are kind of against women that together, we really should try to help each other.”

Cecily has received her fair share of physical critiques owing to her athletic and slender physique, and she expressed this with good reason. Cecily recalls someone telling her she looked ill after she did the Broad Street Run in 62 minutes while in the greatest shape of her life. Cecily donned a sweater, jeans, and boots to work as she stood in for fellow 6ABC meteorologist Adam Joseph, who was unwell. A viewer then chastised her, claiming that her attire was ‘unprofessional.’ Cecily responds that she “trained for years to become a meteorologist” and that, after 23 years on the job, she is far more concerned with her prediction than her outfit.

Tynan, enraged, put this letter on her Facebook page in October of 2017, addressing individuals who continue to body shame.

CECILY TYNAN SAYS SHE WAS ASSAULTED.

Brittany Lewandowski, a South Philadelphia resident, filed a private criminal complaint against Cecily Tynan in June of 2018. According to Lewandowski’s account of events, she and her boyfriend were attending a U2 performance at the Wells Fargo Center shortly after 9 p.m. She claims that towards the start of the event, she was standing up and dancing when she felt someone’s fingernails scrape into her collarbone. Cecily Tynan, who was sat behind Lewandowski and her partner, supposedly had these sharp claws. Tynan allegedly told Lewandowski that she was trying to enjoy the performance and urged her to “shut the f*** up.” When Tynan proceeded to rant and curse at her, security was called.

Lewandowski claims she was unaware of Tynan’s existence. “I’ve never seen that woman before. I didn’t even know she was on TV. I only watch Fox 29”.

When Philadelphia officers arrived to collect the report, they informed Lewandowski that no arrests would be made, but that she had the option of filing a private criminal complaint with the DA’s office.

MORON AND OTHER BLOOPERS – CECILY TYNAN

It’s nearly hard to avoid having your fair share of bloopers on-air when you’ve been working in television for more than two decades. The two most memorable on-air gaffes for Cecily Tynan were when she labeled her fellow weather anchor Adam Joseph a fool. The fact that their colleague, broadcaster Jim Gardner, tried in vain and satirically to salvage the situation added to the hilarity of the scenario.

Another instance occurred when one of Cecily’s earrings fell off as she was conducting her daily weather report. Jim Gardner, her coworker, may then be seen casually going across the green screen to retrieve her earrings.

The anchors at WPVI / 6ABC clearly consider themselves a close-knit family, as seen by these bloopers, which lends their workplace an endearing’small-town studio’ atmosphere.
